Laweyan Batik Village

February 5, 2010 Artikel Batik, Batik Solo

Laweyan is one of the central Batik in Solo. This village was of course there are a lot of history left in this and become kapung icon Batik Solo.

Batik is a traditional art works that many people ditekuni Laweyan. Since the 19th century, this village was known as batik village. That is why the village Laweyan village once known as batik masters who achieved glory at the age of 70 years. According to Alpha is also the manager of the Crown Batik. In this area there Kampung Laweyan Laweyan, Tegalsari, Tegalayu, Batikan, and Jongke, the population becomes much batik producers and traders, had always been until now. This is where the establishment of the Islamic Trade Syarekat, the first trade association founded by the producers and traders of indigenous batik, in 1912.
Former glory native batik merchants tempo doeloe commonly called ‘Gal Gendhu’ can be seen from the legacy of his palatial home. In this area, they did show his glory with a race to build a luxury mansion with beautiful architecture.
Regions Laweyan skipped Rajiman Road Dr., who was in the pivot Kasunanan Surakarta Palace – former royal palace in Kartasura Mataram. Dr Jalan Rajiman of this, many see the high walls that covered large houses, with large gates of wood called REGOL. At first glance not too interesting, even a dull lot. But once REGOL opened, then was building a big house with beautiful architecture. Usually consists of the main building in the center, building wings on either side, and building support behind him, as well as a broad front page.

With this form of architecture, luxurious materials, and beauty of ornament, as the king of ancient batik to demonstrate its ability to build his palace, though in a miniature scale. One example that could be seen was the former home of batik merchant located on the side of Jalan Dr Rajiman, treated and used as a homestay Roemahkoe Lestari equipped restaurant.

Of course not all of them can build a “palace” is broad, because on either side of the neighboring land and built a “palace” was a
ndiri-own. As a result, this area is filled with mini palace, which is only separated by high walls and narrow alleys. The spirit of racing to build luxury homes seem to ignore the importance of public space. Village roads become very narrow. Formed many of the aisle with a narrow enough to pass only one person or motorcycles.

But here unique. Navigate the narrow passage between high walls of ancient houses are very exciting. We seemed to walk in between the triumph of historical monuments tempo doeloe batik traders. Pattern of narrow alleys lined with walls of the house high Gedongan this kind in the region also Kauman, Kemlayan, and Market Kliwon. Because the fun, browse the aisles glorious history of this exotic Laweyan can spend. Especially if you looked in, saw the contents and the beauty of the ornament of all “palace” in the region.

But unfortunately, one by one ancient building beautiful architecture, broken battered era, replaced by shop or a new commercial building architecture is not entirely clear. Local governments do not act anything against this historical artifact damage. Even the former home of the Chairman of the Islamic Trade SI H. Samanhoedi, which should be protected as a witness of history, is not intact anymore, battered down the front. Former palace of Mataram in Kartasura also left in ruins.
